Finding your purpose after Covid.
Jul 13, 2021Are you feeling a little lost after the events of the past year? If so, you are not alone. With the world in a healthcare crisis, all the political unrest thrust upon us, and our own internal struggles, it is completely normal to feel anxious and unsettled.
Our health is tremendously affected by the way that we handle stress. Having a direction that is defined by your purpose goes a long way in keeping our hope alive.
Tools to find your purpose:
1. You must take responsibility for your life and determine who you were meant to be.
This is the big one and is a mindset shift for many. We may consciously or unconsciously, believe that someone or something is going to save us, direct us, or make everything better. Fortunately, the younger generations are not as influenced by movies where women are "saved" by a man. For many years, women were defined by their fathers, husbands, or traditional roles and women still limit themselves because of this.
2. Make a decision!
Indecision will lead to lethargy and unconscious living and this will ultimately lead to depression. You can always pivot if your decision does not work out well.
3. Take control of your mind.
Fight off the tendency to allow external circumstances to determine your destiny. I find that eliminating the negative media and people that are around me, helps. Simple steps are to limit the news, journal thoughts, meditate, or speak with a therapist.
4. Have faith. Affirm it, See it.
I know, it is so easy to say and very difficult to accomplish. Times get tough and darkness may come before the light. It is vital to make a commitment. When you commit, your behavior will match your commitment. With time, your identity will follow your behavior. The struggle will not be as great when it becomes a part of who you are.
5. Change happens from the inside out and the outside in.
Sometimes just dressing a certain way or organizing your home will ignite a spark in you that gets you to feel a different way. Other times, you feel inspired by a poem, book, or meditation. The more tools you use on a regular basis, the easier it will be to stay on purpose and ultimately have the life that you want in a body that feels healthy and strong.
