Procrastintion
Feb 06, 2019Here I am, finally getting this site up and published. Isn’t it interesting that I have been in the wellness industry almost my entire life and I am still dealing with procrastination? I’m confessing this to demonstrate just how difficult procrastination is to overcome.
I had justifiable reasons to put off working on my vision. I won’t bore you with the details, but my loved ones would say "You were dealing with your house, kids, life.” (Got to love them for the unconditional support.) My daughter, who is quite a good coach in her own right, and my promise to myself and my creator, to fulfill my purpose, are what ultimately has me working on a Saturday night.
Trust me, years pass. They really do. I can’t believe that I have been working on trio since before my son was born. He is almost 15! I’ve lost opportunities and am no longer cutting edge in bringing the concept of holistic wellness to the public.
Before kids I used to be interviewed by the press on what the new trends would be in the wellness industry. It was clear to me 15 years ago that community, aging gracefully, meditation and the Lotte-Berk method would all have its’ day. Fortunately, I believe they are here to stay and that my voice will resonate with those that are interested.
Here are some things I have learned along the way that will move you toward your goals and help prevent procrastination.
- Have someone to be accountable to. This is a Huge help in keeping yourself on track. Try working with a friend or joining a group to help keep you focused and inspired.
- Keep a formal list of the small steps that can be taken toward your goal in order to give you a visual clue on what needs to be done next. Check off when complete. It is a little boost to your motivation.
- Seek help when you get stuck! If not, you can be stopped in your tracks for way too long. This is hard to do sometimes as we like to feel in control and can be embarrassed to ask. I've been there and done that!
- Be proud of yourself for accomplishing small tasks that move you in the right direction and reward yourself with something positive. Own that little step forward!
- Don’t waste precious time by scolding yourself or feeling bad. Pick yourself up and get on with it. It's an energy zapper. Keep on moving and trust yourself.
